There is nothing I hate more than ignorant people who as soon as they find out I'm from Saudi Arabia they flood me with their stupid STUPID questions:
"Do you have an oil field?'
"Do you have alot of camels there?"
"Are you rich?"
"Is it like Arabian Nights?"
I can go on forever and ever! These kind of questions really anger me. I mean can people be that ignorant? or is it a way to be funny or something?
Few years ago my aunt went to the United States and stayed there for about a year..she had to hear those questions by some of the people she's met there. Someone asked her once about her camels or something .. I really don't remember, but I remember her answer to the question:
"Yes, well..picture this. Each one of us has their own tent with a camel and an oil well right next to it. I ride my camel everytime I want to go visit someone or go to the market, and fitch oil from my well whenever I need to... you know."
Her answer cracked me up, the thought of us living that way is just halirious.
I am feeling patriotic today, so I'm sharing some facts about my hometown Jeddah.
Taken from Wikipedia:
" Jeddah (also spelled Jedda, Jiddah, Jidda, or Juddah; جدّة Ǧiddah) ,a Saudi Arabian city located on the coast of the Red Sea (), is the major urban center in western Saudi Arabia, the largest in the Western Province, and the second largest city in Saudi Arabia after the capital city Riyadh. The population of the city currently stands at over 3.4 million. It is considered as the commercial capital of Saudi Arabia and the wealthiest city in Middle East and western Asia.
Jeddah is the principal gateway to Mecca, the holiest city of Islam, which able-bodied Muslims are required to visit at least once in a lifetime."
There isn't much to do in Jeddah really, It is not a place for tourists. People who visit Jeddah come either to visit Mecca for religious duties, for business or to shop! There are also great beaches but most of them are private beaches and it'll cost you some cash to get it.
Jeddah is one of the world’s cities that never sleep. It’s a place where streets are as busy at 3 AM as they would be at 6 PM, fast food restaurants are open almost 24/7, arcades open till 2 AM, places are busy all the time. I think robbers never get a chance to rob around here.
Here are some pics I found online...
This is Jeddah's most important landmark, and its listed in the Guinness world records as the highest fountain in the world.
Tahliya St. is where you go to shop til you drop.. you will literally drop. It has 100s of shops.. its kinda like Oxford St. in London.
One of Jeddah's famous malls, I personally hate it but I like the pic.
And this is one little example of how crowded it can get on weekends, and holidays and sometimes regular days. It sucks!
That's all folks!
